Pwned by Caffeine

starbucks-logo-thumbI am an information addict to the extreme and one of my favorite “genres” of information is Health Topics/Issues.  I love reading about nutrition, exercise, bio-chemistry & supplementation, and any thing I can get my hands on.  LOL!  The past few days I’ve been doing a lot of research about caffeine.  Yes, I know what you’re going to say, a little caffeine won’t hurt you…you’re right.  It won’t.  Like most things, if not all, moderation is the key.

I found for myself, that I’ve been drinking WAY TOO MUCH caffeine.  Like anywhere from 2-4 times the recommended healthy intake of caffeine (not the RDA, just what’s considered healthy via The Mayo Clinic), which is 200-300mg/day.  On average, I’m taking in 400-900mg/day, mostly from Coffee.  I spend my time in 3 places…home, work, & Starbucks.  I LOVE coffee.  Really, I do.  I love its taste & aroma.  Well, I’ve noticed that I’ve been experiencing ups & downs a lot lately so I started to look into exactly how much caffeine I’m taking in…yikes.

So, without further adieu, here’s the caffeine content of some of the things that me and my co-workers consume daily:

Tall (12 oz): 260 mg
Grande (16 oz): 330 mg
Venti (20 oz): 415 mg
